Zayed Future Energy Prize documentary, Naked Eye Productions (2009)
Digital Media Supervisor and Production, Naked Eye Productions, New York, NY
Worked on location filming finalists for the Zayed Future Energy Prize of the Royal Family of Abu Dhabi. Locations included Bangladesh, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates.
In Bangladesh, filming focused on the eventual winner of the 2009 prize, Mr. Dipal Barua and his clean energy initiative Grameen Shakti. By developing an innovative installment-based payment plan for solar systems, Grameen was able to lower the monthly cost of solar to the equivalent of kerosene. 245,000 solar electricity systems were constructed on homes in Bangladesh, bringing electricity to 2.2 million people. Additionally, its network of local technicians, many of whom are women, has helped to provide jobs for thousands more people.
The Zayed Future Energy Prize, managed by Masdar in Abu Dhabi, recognizes and rewards innovators in sustainable energy. It was inspired by the vision of the late Ruler of Abu Dhabi and Founding Father of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The prize is awarded annually by His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, to honour his father’s legacy of environmental stewardship.
