Eric Forman Studio 

at New Lab


Eric Forman Studio is seeking interns to work with us in our amazing Brooklyn Navy Yard studio at New Lab

Projects you will be working on include physical computing, programming, prototyping, interactive design, mechatronics, woodworking, and digital fabrication. 

This is an unpaid position (except those subsidized by the BNY), but in exchange you are provided with your own desk space in our studio and are given 24 hour access to the workshop and studio resources, including a full wood and metal fabrication shop with high-end CNC tools, laser cutter, and 3D printers.

For current students, school credit is possible with the appropriate commitment. 

Time commitment is flexible and ranges from 3-5 days per week, depending on workload and your availability; this is designed to give the intern a fair opportunity to work on their own projects or earn money at other jobs. 

Tools & Skills

The fabrication facilities that all interns will have access to include a full wood and metal shop. In addition the following high-end tools are available:

  • MIG and TIG welding 
  • Formech 508FS vacuum former

There will also be the opportunity to do work with photography, video documentation and editing, website design, social media strategy, and studio business administration.


We are looking for interns who are technically minded, organized, creative, and thorough. You should have familiarity with at least one of the following: physical computing, architecture, industrial design, electrical engineering, computer science, or furniture design. 

Prior professional experience is not required, but you should at least be familiar enough with these technologies to assist on projects and learn more independently.
