INTERACTIVE ELECTRONICS
FOR ARTISTS: A CRASH COURSE

Saturday, July 19th, 2 - 7pm @ OfficeOps

This intensive 5-hour workshop will get you started with the building blocks of physically interactive technology, enabling your work to sense and respond to its environment. This course is geared towards people interested in exploring new possibilities for screen-based and installation art, robotics, and "smart" architecture.

bx24 microcontroller

A real project using the BX-24 microcontroller and Macromedia Director will be built throughout the day demonstrating each of the course topics, which include:

> Basic electronics (electrical principles, circuits, components, tools)
> Using microcontrollers (programming, input/output)
> Using sensors (analog-to-digital conversion)
> Serial communication (getting devices to talk with each other)
> Reactive output (designing meaningful reactions on screen or in space)

Prerequisites: some familiarity with computers; enjoying taking things apart; programming experience helpful

This course is the first in a series. Follow-up classes will cover more advanced topics and include hands-on workshops in which students can work on their own ideas.

Cost: $50 per participant.
